AirFi Supports KLM Cityhopper During SkyTeam’s Sustainable Flight Challenge

AirFi sends congratulations to KLM Cityhopper on its successful return flight as part of the second SkyTeam Sustainable Flight Challenge yesterday.

The aim of the challenge was to make the flight as environmentally sustainable as possible, and we’re ecstatic that AirFi got to play a part in that!

Flight KLM 1173 took off at 09:20 CET from Amsterdam to Trondheim in Norway with our AirFi box onboard before returning to Amsterdam the same day. Before takeoff, the airline loaded the box with custom content that showcased the special sustainability measures in place, from the use of SAF to the distribution of the inflight catering at the departure gate (which reduces catering weight by 80%).

It also encouraged interaction with passengers: Passengers had the option of filling in a survey regarding the flight, and there was space for them to leave their own thoughts about how KLM Cityhopper can improve its approach to sustainability.

On these flights, the AirFi box also featured the May edition of KLM Cityhopper’s inflight magazine, Holland Herald; a moving map; a video about last year’s Sustainable Flight Challenge and links to more information about the carrier’s sustainability efforts and initiatives.

Maarten de Raad, Sustainability Lead at KLM Cityhopper, said, “AirFi’s portable, streaming IFE solution has enabled us to digitize our inflight magazine for weight and fuel burn savings, as well as inform our passengers about the other special aspects of this flight, being part of The Sustainable Flight Challenge, an initiative by SkyTeam.”

Good luck to KLM Cityhopper – the flight will now be judged against those of 21 other participating airlines before SkyTeam announces winners of awards ranging from to “Best Sustainable Innovation In-Flight” to “Best Partnership” and more.
